What Kael Novus means

Kael

Old world. A Gaelic-rooted name worn thin and hard by centuries of use until one syllable is left. The human half: the voice, the pulse, the part that refuses to be processed out.

Novus

Latin for new. Not new as in shiny. New as in what comes after: the rebuild, the next version, the signal that starts again once the old one has been cut.

Put together: an old name, made new. The person before the machine, and what he becomes on the other side of the static.

The person before the machine.

Kael Novus is the work of Andrew Dempsey, a Brisbane musician who has been writing, recording and playing his own songs since the early 2000s.

For most of that decade he played lead guitar and sang backing vocals in Wolffhaven, a five-piece Brisbane rock band with his brother John on drums. Wolffhaven pressed a CD of ten originals in 2003. On Sunday 01/05/2005 the band played Woodstock Festival Downunder at Kurwongbah, on the same bill as Jimmy Barnes. Someone filmed the set, and ninety seconds of it are here.

In 2010 Andrew and John started A New Called Life with their lifelong friend Jacqueline, and put three original songs on triple j Unearthed.

The sound comes from what he plays: the nu-metal and industrial of Linkin Park, Mudvayne and Rob Zombie, the cinematic weight of Starset and Nothing More, and the modern metalcore of I Prevail, Bad Omens and Architects.

Kael Novus is the next chapter. Andrew writes every lyric and directs every track, visual and release, and the music is built with AI tools. His own vocals are coming to the project soon. The tools changed. The creativity and the hours did not.

kaelnovus.com is the operational home for the Kael Novus project. It hosts the artist's public presence and the OAuth callback endpoints used by the project's own publishing tools when posting to platforms the artist controls.

The tooling is not a third-party service. It is a private, single-operator pipeline used by one artist to schedule and publish his own music, visuals, and written transmissions to his own connected accounts. No other users are onboarded. No content is stored on behalf of third parties.
